A while ago, I took my music down from streaming platforms as I needed to redo the terms of the distributor I was using. I re-released Jesus, Son of David and King of Glory, but didn’t get round to re-releasing Here at the Cross so I am not finally doing that. You can find out more by following this link.
I’ve been looking through my old demos to see which ones are in a fit state to be released on YouTube as Soundcloud has become unusable for people who people who don’t want to set up an account. YouTube is accessible to all even if they have to put up with ads.
The latest demo release is I am Alive, which was originally scheduled for my planned EP prior to covid. A lot of it was recorded at a friends house in January 2020, but its languished in my files because of a whole number of reasons, none of which are particularly valid.
The song was written as i was reading a list of who we are in Christ from Joyce Myers website and I just began to sing who were are over and over again.
Thanks to Leke for recording everything and adding drums and basic piano and Stephen for the additional keys and horns. I miss you guys.
I Am Alive
Verse 1 I am free from the law of sin and death The Holy Spirit lives in me I am dead to my sin and alive in Christ The Holy Spirit lives in me
Chorus I am alive I am alive I am Alive
Verse 2 I am free from my fear for He’s my peace The Holy Spirit lives in me And my trust is in Him for He is my rock The Holy spirit lives in me
Ending For God within me Is greater than he That is in the world
I am excited to say I have a new release that is out on Spotify and Apple Music along with YouTube
The song was written as part of the 12 Songs Challenge in October 2022 and focuses on the love of God and how it changes us. I love using the song in worship and use it a lot when I am out worshiping God in my local shopping centre on a Saturday morning.
So check out the song on your favourite streaming platform or watch the video below. And if you dont already follow/subscribe please do so on social media and all the other platforms.
Recently, while doing some open-air worship, I sang a song I hadn’t sung for years.
Based on Psalm 7, the song was written in 2003 and was captured on a cassette tape during a time of worship at Woolwich Community Church in December of that year. It was then transferred from the cassette onto an MP3 file, so the quality was a little rough. I have tried to clean up a bit, but I have only been partially successful. Nonetheless, I like the performance, particularly the flute played by Mary Campbell.
The full band was:
Richard Stringer: guitar and vocals
Mary Campbell: flute and vocals
BrianFoster: congas and vocals
Caroline Brown: keys
Sound Desk: Mark Fraser
I hope you enjoy the song and thanks for listening.
Back in 2019 when I could barely play the piano, I wrote this song which was used at Christmas in our church in London. I’ve always promised myself that one day I would record a decent version and then release it.
True to form, I’ve never done that but this year I gave it a go and I am sharing it with you now. I would like to continue working on the mix, but if I do that it will never be released so I’m releasing it as it is.
This is a song written as part of this year’s 12 Song Challenge and I realised I hadn’t put together a demo of the song. So here is a rough piano/vox demo as a placeholder in the meantime. I sung as I played, so the vocal isn’t the best but that isn’t the point of the demo.
If you like my stuff, please take time to like the video and subscribe to my channel as there are more songs coming.
Lead Me
Verse 1:
Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. As I go through my day I call to you For you have been my refuge, and my strong tower And as my heart grows faint, I cry out to you
Chorus:
Lead me, oh lead me, to the rock that is higher than I My fortress, my refuge, my saviour, beginning and end,
Verse 2:
Let me spend my days resting in your house Settled safe beneath the shadow of Your wings. For you heard my cry, answered my prayer No matter what may come, I know you’re by my side.
A big thank you to everybody who has contributed to my fundraising total. It currently stands at £274, so I am over halfway towards my target. There are now just two weeks to go until the marathon, and, being honest, I am looking forward to it being over.
The amount of running I have done has taken over my life. In April, I ran over 88 km; this month, I have run 62 km. Today, I will be out running for another hour.
My watch gives me training suggestions which can adapt to how my body is dealing with all this. So, for example, when I looked yesterday, the suggestion for today was for a two-hour long run, which would have taken me up to Mumbles Head and back for a run of 16 or 17 km, but after a bad night’s sleep, it has changed that to a one-hour run.
The one part of my body that my watch cannot track is the state of my knees, which have always given me trouble throughout my life but are generally holding up well. I would be very grateful if you could pray that they will continue to hold up and that I can complete the training and, therefore, the race.
So, as I press on towards finishing my training, please consider whether there’s anyone else you could ask to contribute to Shelter.
All the benefits I get from running are great, but I have a lovely house and family to return to every time I do it. I’ve also never been homeless; I have never lived in temporary accommodation or had to sofa surf. Many people, especially with the “cost of living crisis,” are losing their homes because they cannot afford to pay the rent or are being evicted via “no-fault” evictions.
Shelter is doing all it can to raise awareness and lobby politicians; every penny raised will help them do just that little bit more. If you haven’t done so already, you can contribute here.
Just to recap, I signed up in January to run the Swansea Half Marathon on 9th June this year and have been training since. The race is 21km, and the longest I had run in the previous 12 months was 8km. I will get around the course but may need to walk part of it.
I am fundraising for Shelter Cymru because I believe that Home is Everything. You can find out more about their work here.
I am looking to raise £500 to help with their work and am now halfway there. So we are halfway there, and I am overwhelmed by everyone’s support. My training is in the peak phase, which is all about miles. In the last four weeks, I’ve run for more than 90km, which I really feel in my legs. It’s also taken over a good chunk of my life, which has meant music has taken a bit of a back seat.
With three weeks to go, the mileage will start to decrease, but the intensity will increase as I do shorter, faster runs. Once again, thanks for your support so far; hopefully, we can hit that £500 target.
11 years after it was written and 3 years since I recorded it, I am finally releasing one of my most popular songs, This is Love.
One of the biggest themes in Christianity is God’s love. This idea is deep and personally means a lot to many people, including me. It also inspires a lot of music and art. Today, I want to talk about one of my own songs called “This is Love” that really explores this theme and includes words from the Bible in its lyrics, making a connection between God’s message and us through music.
Back in 2003, when I wrote “This is Love,” I was beginning to change how I approached music. Instead of just expressing my own thoughts, I started to feel like I was sharing a message that was inspired more directly by God. This shift is especially clear in the first part of the song, which uses words from the Bible, from 1 John 4:10: “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
This Bible verse is very important because it highlights how God showed His love first by sending Jesus to help us and fix our relationship with Him. The term “hilasmon”, used in the original Greek, is translated as “atoning sacrifice,” meaning a special offering to make things right. This concept has been a central part of Christian beliefs for a long time.
The music style of “This is Love” is inspired by the 1960s, a decade known for its new music that often explored big life and spiritual questions. Choosing this style was not just about nostalgia but about reinforcing the song’s message through a genre known for its deep explorations and revolutionary ideas.
When I think about how this song combines music with Bible verses, I see how art can open new ways to understand big ideas. It’s not just hearing the words; it’s feeling them in our hearts through the music. This can help us see things differently than we might if we were just reading or hearing them spoken.
To sum it up, “This is Love” isn’t just a song. It’s a reflection on God’s profound love, told through music. It has helped me—and I hope it helps you—think about how vast and transformative God’s love is. As we all continue to grow in our faith, songs like this don’t just entertain; they teach and provoke thought.
I hope this song brings you closer to understanding God’s love as you listen and enjoy the music.
For the April 2021 12 Song Challenge I wrote a song based on Luke 24:49
“I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high” and Acts chapter 1.
It’s one of those songs that has sat in a folder marked To Be Recorded, so I thought with Pentecost coming up, I would work on the song and make it ready for release. You can hear my thoughts on it and listen to the demo on YouTube.
